About Us

About Us

Afromothers is a women-led, family-centered empowerment organization dedicated to strengthening families by empowering mothers and children to thrive mentally, emotionally, and economically.

Rooted in the belief that the well-being of families begins with supported mothers, Afromothers works holistically with families—placing women at the center while intentionally including children, youth, and caregivers in all its programs.

Our work responds to the daily realities families face: emotional stress, financial pressure, parenting challenges, and limited access to psychosocial support. We exist to help families heal, grow, and build resilient futures together.

Our Story

The Story Behind Afromothers

At the heart of Afromothers is a deeply personal and transformative journey.

Dr. Blessing grew up as a double orphan, navigating life through intense emotional, social, and economic challenges without consistent parental support. These early experiences exposed her to the realities of loss, trauma, instability, and unmet mental health needs—challenges faced by many children and families, often in silence.

Rather than allowing adversity to define her limits, she transformed it into purpose.

Through resilience, perseverance, and education, Dr. Blessing emerged as a mother, a scholar, and a thriving professional. Her lived experience shaped a lifelong conviction: no family should suffer alone, and no child should grow without emotional protection and guidance.

This conviction became the foundation of Afromothers.

"What she once endured has become her mission: to heal families, empower women, protect children, and build resilient generations."

Why Afromothers Was Founded

Afromothers was founded to address a critical gap observed through both lived experience and professional practice—the lack of holistic, family-centered mental health and empowerment services.

Dr. Blessing recognized that:

  • Mental health is central to family stability and child development
  • Mothers require emotional, psychological, and economic support to sustain families
  • Children thrive best within safe, emotionally responsive family systems

Afromothers was therefore designed to treat families as interconnected systems, with a deliberate focus on empowering women and safeguarding children.

Professional Expertise & Practice

With a PhD in Mental Psychology, Dr. Blessing is a consultant in mental health and psychology, professionally equipped to assess, manage, and guide responses to a wide spectrum of mental health challenges—from mild and early-stage concerns to complex and high-risk cases.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • Mental health assessment and psychosocial interventions
  • Stress management and emotional resilience
  • Management of simple to complex mental health conditions
  • Family, parenting, and relationship counselling
  • Trauma-informed care and safeguarding
  • School-based mental health and psychosocial support
  • Reproductive, maternal, and adolescent health
  • Women's economic empowerment and financial literacy

Under her leadership, Afromothers has supported more than 1,000 schools, addressing learners' mental health needs through prevention, early intervention, and structured referral systems.

Leadership & Executive Direction

As Executive Director, Dr. Blessing provides strategic and technical leadership, ensuring that Afromothers' programs are:

  • Evidence-based and ethically grounded
  • Aligned with public health and safeguarding standards
  • Family-centered and gender-responsive
  • Designed for sustainable, long-term impact

Her leadership bridges clinical insight, public health systems thinking, and community realities.

"Dr. Blessing Namara is uniquely positioned to lead Afromothers. Her PhD-level expertise in mental psychology, combined with her background in public and reproductive health and her lived understanding of family vulnerability, equips her to guide both strategic vision and complex mental health programming with competence and compassion."
